About this deal

A must-read for music fans everywhere, Later… with Jools Hollandpulls back the curtain on classic performances to reveal that the show is just as magical, if even more chaotic, than you imagined. It was Mark who had to explain to Jay-Z why he couldnt just do his numbers and split, who told Seasick Steve why he had to play Dog House Boogie on the Hootenanny and persuaded Johnny Cash that he simply had to come in, even when The Man in Black wasnt feeling well. Dimbola Museum and Galleries recently hosted a 2nd talk on the exhibition ‘Experience the Isle of Wight Festival 2002 to 2023’ with Mark Cooper, ex-head of music at the BBC, and creator and Producer of ‘Later…with Jools Holland’. I like that the author does try and address issues such as the (often middle-aged) studio audience not always being particularly appreciative of the varied artists and genres presented on the show, and the backlash from some "fans" who don't always grasp that yes, *all* genres being welcome does include rap, hip-hop etc. Most purchases from business sellers are protected by the Consumer Contract Regulations 2013 which give you the right to cancel the purchase within 14 days after the day you receive the item.

With Jools Holland this exploration into the last 30 years of an electric mix of great music and artist will surely keep entertained. From Stormzy to Björk, from Smokey Robinson to Norah Jones, from Britpop to trip hop, here is the word on how Later?

Dave Grohl and Alicia Keys loved it, Björk treasured it, Ed Sheeran’s life was changed by it, Kano felt at home while Nick Cave was horrified but inspired, and they all kept coming back. But Van contributed to many Laters over the years, never making this request again, and he brought the entire 25th show to a rousing climax with Gloria. A fun book to read covering the musicians featured over the past 30 years on this great TV programme including numerous contributions from the artists themselves about their unique experiences performing on the show with lots of behind-the-scenes information. It was Mark who had to explain to Jay-Z why he couldn’t just do his numbers and split, who told Seasick Steve why he had to play ‘Dog House Boogie’ on the Hootenanny and persuaded Johnny Cash that he simply had to come in, even when The Man in Black wasn’t feeling well.

I have watched the Jools Holland show for many years and always see him in concert each year when he tours.Written by the show’s co-creator and 26-year showrunner, music journalist Mark Cooper, this is the story of how Later? It was another fabulous evening and Mark’s talk was very amusing and insightful, giving us all a window into the way in which ‘Later… ‘ works – or doesn’t sometimes! It doesn’t try to be too cool for school and isn’t a trend show or a generational show and isn’t aimed at a particular demographic.
