About this deal

Then I’ll export the full audio of my song arrangement and save it to my “Music Demos” folder in Dropbox. The Pad mode, which provides special colour coding for kicks, snares and other sounds, is suitable for beats. Play with inspiring sounds and effects for any style, including full versions of MASSIVE, MONARK, and REAKTOR PRISM.

But, once I got my bearings, it was easy to do most of what I wanted to do using the tiny LED screen on the Mikro. Maschine Mikro MK3 also features a dual-touch Smart Strip to bend and warp sounds, strum instruments and performance effects.

Maschine Mikro Mk3 works both as a stand-alone program and with a DAW, so you can produce music at any time. That’s what’s great about the Mikro: you can throw away the instruction manual and try to figure it out on your own if you want to.

The 16x back-lit pads of the Maschine Mikro Mk3 are more than just a pretty face, they also hide a lot of potential beneath the surface. But at that same time there’s still a few buttons and features I simply haven’t had the time to try – it can do stuff I’m not skilled enough yet to understand. Maybe it’s because I know Native Instruments is a Germany-based company, and that makes me think of precision engineering, but it feels like the Mikro is conserving energy when it’s turned off. I bought it as an extension to my keyboard (I am more of a piano player thus I prefer to compose using an 88 keyboard) . MASCHINE MIKRO is the perfect first step for music producers already using a DAW to get hands-on with their creative process, letting them tap out beats and melodies, and quickly build up loops and track ideas. From that standpoint, MASCHINE Mikro is indeed an instrument, even if it’s controlling the computer. The iMaschine app has a familiar look, with on-screen pads for playing instruments on four separate Groups. Maschine Mikro MK3 is fully compatible with the full range of Native Instruments soft synths and virtual instruments, as well as hundreds of NKS-compatible plugins. Or load any of the pro-designed presets to dial in bass sounds for any genre, from booming subs to dripping acid. There are samples of vintage synths and drum machines as well as several adventurous digital synths created in Reaktor.

The Macro controls were quickly assigned to Predator functions of my choice via the 'learn plug-in parameter' option. Yeah i spend a little time mousing the software but I mouse a lot anyway as it is so this doesn't even bother me. In step time, the pads light to illustrate the Pattern, over multiple pages in the case of longer Patterns. There are 16 pages of these assignments, which should be enough to satisfy the most demanding automation fetishist. But, when the power’s off, it’s just a hunk of black plastic with a bunch of square white buttons on it.It's an implementation tailored for entering percussion X0X-style and not well suited to the creation of musical sequences (it lacks the ability to step through the Pattern as notes are entered). I primarily tested it with the included Maschine 2 software – which I found very clever for beat-making – but it also worked great in my Pro Tools setup.

There’s even an arpeggiator, which allows you to easily create complex rhythmic patterns using any type of instrument. But, if you invest your time in the Native Instruments’ audio production world, it’ll pay off in your ability to get the most out of the gear. Its trump card is undoubtedly the ability to host third-party plug-ins, a feature that tends to smooth away any worries that there aren't unlimited tracks or extensive editing options. From electronic and acoustic drum kits, to guitars, basses, and organs, to great sounding FX and more – you get everything you need to start creating, right out of the box. After a straightforward installation and activation, you are faced with a predominantly dark grey interface relieved by splashes of orange and blue to reflect the look of the hardware. KMR Audio Ltd is a credit broker and is Authorised and Regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. The Maschine hardware from Native Instruments has always been a winning formula, allowing DAW users to get hands-on with their music. MASCHINE MIKRO is the perfect first step for music producers already using a DAW to get hands on with their creative process, letting them tap out beats and melodies, and quickly build up loops and track ideas. So imagine having (some of) the shackles cut loose and sampling away after working to those limits - great fun.
