About this deal

It is also dust and splash proof, meaning I was able to use it in light rain without any fear of damaging it. Put the camera on a tripod, select the smallest focussing point you can and then focus on a subject at least 50 metres away.

Centering the red-dot sight requires the camera to be tripod-mounted, or at a minimum resting on a steady support (it is impossible to do this hand-held). This adjustment never changes because the rail is solidly mounted and the dot sight fastens into the exact same position every time, an advantage of all-metal construction. The only thing to take into account is that a large lens with a large hood could get in the way in the case of certain camera and lens combinations.

Focus on a point with your lens make sure the object that you focus on is in the centre of your shot when looking at the camera screen. However, setting it up while holding the camera would more uncomfortable because you can’t maintain a precise composition and work with the dials at the same time (especially with a long lens). For sports from a suitably long distance I suppose it could work even better since there you can generally judge the distance better and need less adjustment on the fly.

And once you have set it up every time you use that lens and look through the dot sight your object will be in the centre of the frame. Most red dot sights cannot even be zeroed/aligned at very short distances because they don't have the adjustment range. It folds down to about twice the size of the mini electronic flash included with all high-end Olympus cameras, and uses a cheap CR2032 battery that lasts quite a long time. In the old days there was not 'slr' effect of magnified view and it was much easier to get the brain to wrap both images into one combined 'picture'.I know some people find it useful, but I didn't find it to be worthwhile before I had subject recognition, but maybe if you go to Adrian Harris' link you can get some helpful tips. If you look on the internet you can find similar products made by third party manufacturers (some also less expensive) but I have no experience with them.
